Merle S. Sweet - Head of School of the Madison Jewish Community Day School
Sweet earned his doctorate in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his undergraduate degree in elementary education from the Wisconsin State Teachers College (now the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse). He previously served in the Madison Metropolitan School District for 35 years as an elementary school teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent. He has also been an adjunct professor and guest lecturer at Madison Area Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Like his parents and children, he was born and raised in Madison. Sweet's family has been involved in the Jewish community for his entire life, having been an original member of Beth Israel Center. He formerly served on the Beth Israel Center Board of Directors and Board of Education, and the MJCC Jewish Education Panel. He is also an active member of Chabad Lubavitch of Madison. Sweet and his wife, Patricia, live in Madison. His son, Mitchell, along with his grandchildren, Rebecca, Alexandra, and Max live in Arizona; his son, Martin, daughter-in-law Anat, and grandchildren, Elli and Solomon live in Florida. When not spending time with his family, Sweet can be found reading, davening, golfing, or watching his beloved Chicago Cubs.
