About Us
Mission:
Through an integrated, dynamic, and enriching dual curriculum, the Madison Jewish Community Day School works with students to develop a capacity for critical thinking, a connection to their Jewish heritage through engagement with Jewish life and text, and a profound sense of community and responsibility. Challenging and supporting students academically and intellectually, MJCDS is committed to fostering a lifelong love of learning.
Philosophy
The Madison Jewish Community Day School strives to teach the whole child and to engage each child as the child becomes an independent thinker and problem-solver. In a pluralistic and egalitarian environment, students will experience various aspects of Jewish life and culture, personalizing the morals and lessons guided by Torah. MJCDS recognizes the profound capacity of each child to learn and strives to provide academic excellence.
MJCDS will provide students intellectually stimulating educational opportunities which will encourage them to reach for their next level of challenge in general and Judaic studies. Students will learn Jewish skills and values by studying traditional and modern Jewish texts, and as they learn modern Hebrew, they will learn the significance and history of the state of Israel. While MJCDS incorporates Judaism and Hebrew in each child’s day, MJCDS recognizes the need for our students to become educated members of our broader world. Students will engage in interdisciplinary projects to explore science and social studies using a hands-on and integrative approach. Students will study different areas of the world, explore those cultures, and compare them to their own experiences as Jewish Americans. MJCDS will emphasize the arts as a window to understanding other cultures: students will be exposed to musical and artistic opportunities, and will have opportunities to create art and music of their own.
MJCDS believes that the students’ learning will continue throughout their lives as they enter diverse communities prepared to lead for social justice. Through building a community within the classroom and with the school’s families, as well as reaching out to surrounding communities, MJCDS will place Torah, Kavod (respect), Gemilut Hasadim (acts of kindness), and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) at the forefront of a curriculum unique to Madison, Wisconsin.
